SYS and UKSSH RAMP UP RAIL PARTNERSHIP

SYS (Scaffolding Contractors) Ltd and UK System Scaffold Hire’s collaboration to build a temporary footbridge at Kibworth in Leicestershire is the latest example of the two companies working together to optimise the benefits of the Haki Bridge System - and this time featured two 100 metre long access ramps rather than public access staircases.

The 20 metre wide temporary footbridge enabled residents to access shops and local schools safely while engineers demolish the existing bridge and then rebuild it to dimensions that provide the clearance needed for overhead wires to pass beneath it.

Having listened to the local community, Network Rail devised a diversion route that best suited the needs of the community with the ramps accessing the bridge ensuring that those with pushchairs, wheelchairs and scooters could safely access local schools and nurseries in the village.Joe Pearce, MD of SYS Scaffolding commented: “We have worked with UKSSH on a number of rail projects using the Haki Bridge System and incorporated HAKI public access staircases to provide access to each side of the bridge.“However, on this occasion the requirement to ensure that those with pushchairs, wheelchairs and scooters could easily use the bridge meant that constructing shallow gradient access ramps, complete with rest platforms, was the only option.”Haki is one of the very few scaffold systems that enable you to build ramps which are fully compliant with public access legislation and are the perfect solution when providing temporary public access not only on rail projects, but also for shops and public buildings as well as for sporting and entertainment venues. As proved by SYS (Scaffolding Contractors) Ltd at Kibworth, ramps can be designed to rise to any challenge, they can be adapted to accommodate space, length and shape limitations and are available in a range of surface finishes including GRP non-slip which was used on this project.
