HAKI TRIPODS PROVE THEIR WORTH

Once a 28-storey building has been completed, getting to the upper floors takes little thought or effort – jump in the lift and technology does the rest.

During the construction phase, however, site stair towers are still the preferred option – and for a 28-storey tower in Birmingham that meant the requirement for an 80 metre tall Haki site stair tower.

The considerable leg loads at the base of the stair tower could have been accommodated by using triple standards for the first 12 lifts, but Birmingham based Scaffold Erection Services (SES) worked alongside UK System Scaffold Hire to incorporate Haki Tripod Heavy Duty Supports into the design instead.

The solution was to use Haki Tripods for the first 24 metres of the stair tower and then use Haki standards for the remainder of the tower.

Not only did the resulting stair tower look neater, but using Haki Tripods also reduced the number of components and man hours for that part of the build by 90%.

Tex Milner, Managing Director of SES, complemented the technical support provided by UKSSH: “Our purpose at SES is to provide the highest calibre of scaffold and access service and safety and our suppliers play an important role in this regard. From initial enquiry, through to delivery and on-site support, UKSSH worked closely with us to ensure they understood our requirements and delivered the most effective and efficient design solution”.

The mixed-use development in Essex Street, Birmingham is being constructed by the Wates Group and will include a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments, a sky garden and rooftop cinema.
