UK System Scaffold Hire has been instrumental in reinventing the way that scaffold required for heritage renovation work is viewed: elevating it from a necessary evil to an opportunity to further engage the public and even become an invaluable revenue stream – as one of their latest projects demonstrates.
Tamworth Scaffolding has a 25 year track record in supplying specialist scaffolding services to the heritage sector, but when he was asked for a public viewing platform to be incorporated into scaffolding required for essential renovation work on a Grade 1 Listed monument, Tamworth Scaffolding’s MD Jem Winstone tapped into the expertise offered by UK System Scaffold Hire to ensure that he delivered a solution that was aesthetically pleasing, could handle the expected footfall and be 100% compliant.
The erection of scaffolding was an integral part of the project, but Tamworth Scaffolding and UKSSH helped to turn the scaffolding in to a tourist attraction, providing visitors with an opportunity to ascend a 10m high public stair tower to a 6.6m long x 5.8m wide steel-decked public viewing platform (with public barrier handrails) and take in the spectacular view.
As Jem explains: “UKSSH provided design support and advice on bay layouts to achieve the loading of 5Kn/sq.m which is required for public use: Their unsurpassed product knowledge combined with HAKI's superb Public Access Staircase has provided an access solution that is fully SG4 compliant.”
