CONGRATULATIONS TO CASS SUPPLIES UK LTD: SHORTLISTED FOR 2024 NASC PROJECT OF THE YEAR (LARGE) AWARD

CASS Supplies UK LTD are the latest UKSSH client to be nominated for a major industry award – we are delighted that our collaborative approach to projects helps the best scaffolding companies in the UK achieve outstanding results.

In Bristol, CASS Supplies were engaged by Lancer Scott during the pre-construction phase of the Fire Safety Recladding scheme at the Milliners residential building in the city centre. CASS’s early involvement allowed Lancer Scott to develop an access solution tailored to the project’s unique challenges, including working within an "island site" surrounded by a major A road and busy B roads serving both retail and commercial properties.

The project site is a live residential building located in an extremely busy part of Bristol, bounded by heavily trafficked roads. Two roofs intersected at different heights and perspectives, adding complexity to scaffold and access planning.

Temporary Roof and Access Solutions
One of the standout aspects of this project was the Haki temporary roof, supplied by UKSSH, which CASS executed with precision. The scaffold was designed with fully boarded 2m lifts, enabling cladding remediation and access to the level 5/6 roof for the demolition and reconstruction of six penthouse apartments. This temporary roof provided crucial protection during construction, exemplifying one of CASS Supplies best temporary roof jobs to date.

Limited Access and Material Handling
Due to the confined nature of the site, managing material deliveries and scaffold erection required meticulous logistical planning. Early morning deliveries and lane closures were implemented to minimise disruption, with materials offloaded and erected before the morning rush hour. Full road closures during weekends enabled crane lifts for roof beams.

UKSSH responded to the requirement for meticulous logistical planning, ensuring that components for the roof were delivered not just on time, but in carefully planned phases to help speed up the construction process.

Safety and Resident Considerations
The scaffold design included overhead gantries to maintain access for adjacent neighbours, while resident’s balconies were maintained with debris netting, ensuring accessibility and ventilation were preserved until specific works were required.

Fire Safety Compliance
All scaffold tie penetrations were fire-sealed by CASS operatives and meticulously recorded on the site’s fire risk assessment. The safety measures ensured compliance with best practice, with three Haki stairs and three goods and passenger hoists facilitating safe material distribution.
