Jarvis Scaffolding of Shrewsbury and UKSSH have collaborated on two prestigious renovation projects on historic properties in Shropshire and Worcestershire.
On both projects Jarvis Scaffolding found the perfect solution to the unique challenges posed by each property: To minimise costs, their design team integrated the company’s own stock of tube and fittings to support two Haki temporary roofs supplied by UK System Scaffold Hire.
Ribbesford House in Worcestershire has quite a history: A vast Grade II-listed mansion which dates back to the mid-16th Century, Ribbesford House was chosen by French president Charles De Gaulle as the headquarters for his Free French officer cadets. A group of around 200 cadets used the property and grounds for two years until D-Day, when they joined the invasion forces.
Today at Ribbesford a different battle takes centre stage with the immense task of restoring a building which had fallen into a catastrophic state of disrepair. The two temporary roofs, totalling 625 square metres, have to provide a long-term weatherproof environment for the renovation work and required extra elevation and an asymmetric design to accommodate two iconic octagonal towers at the rear of the roof.
The project at Hopton Court in Shropshire, which dates from 1776 and is attributed to the architect John Nash, provided a more traditional challenge – the 254 square metre roof needed to be totally watertight to protect the house’s priceless artefacts while the roof was being renovated.
